The one with the Fourth of July.

I wasn't planning on going to a park or anything to watch fireworks this year, because they were so late, but I decided late on Friday night that I would head up to our city ones.  Late as in, we left a half hour before it started.  I don't know why I thought it would be easy.  The traffic was awful, we spent more time getting there than we did watching the actual fireworks.

We just stayed in the car--I knew we wouldn't sit through all of them, and I wanted to beat the traffic anyway.  There was of course no parking, so I just pulled over on the side in a bike lane--right before it started.  We just happened to be right in front of them though!  It worked out well.  Except that I opened the windows before it started, and wasn't paying attention, and didn't give Luca a fair warning.  He didn't appreciate that.

While we watched I asked him if he liked the pretty colors, he said no.  I asked him if he liked the noise, he said no.  I asked him if he thought they were cool, he said no.  I asked him if he wanted to go home, he said yes.  Ha.  We stayed a few more minutes, and then, really just because I was paranoid about the traffic, we headed home--they ended up lasting a half hour!!

Jose, his dad and Luca were fixing the bed at their house for the girls to sleep in when they got there.

We prepped and got all the food ready, and had a mini party.  Luca dragged grandpa into the playroom over and over again, he was a good sport.

We headed out before it was too dark to start our fireworks--rain was in the forecast, so we wanted to beat it.

This year we got giant aerial fireworks, and some fountain ones.  We saw like 5 mishaps with fireworks while we were out, and we only lit a little bit of grass on fire for a minute when one of our aerials tipped over and almost took out the stop sign.

We watched just a few houses down when another aerial tipped over, and shot out and exploded right on someones front door.  Thankfully nobody was hurt.

Big ones are so fun, but man they stress me out.  And Luca.  He didn't love them.  He just wanted to be "all done" and said it over and over again.

He did like the sparklers and the pop its though!

The rest of the night we spent watching from the window.  He liked it much better from in there, plus no bugs.

I don't know why I thought I needed to go to a firework show at all.  I probably counted 30 different houses setting off fireworks during the time we were, I think 9 at the same time was the most I counted at once.  It was so fun!! I love fireworks--and if people respected the time frames, and days they were allowed to do them, I would love them even more.  But man it is hard with a child.  People are doing them right this second out my window and I'm incredibly annoyed about it.

Luca stayed up so late this entire week, but he hasn't seem phased by it, thankfully.  He went down on time tonight--but didn't fall asleep for an hour or so, hopefully this week he can get back on his regular schedule!
