Luca and I headed to Jens on Tuesday afternoon so we could get the skinny on everything before she left in the morning for 5 days.
The drive through the canyon was totally bizarrely full of dust, that is not fog, its dirt. It was super super windy.
Luca wasted no time feeling like a king with all of the attention he got. He relished in it all, and loved all the kids.
Tae and Chase were especially his favorites probably because they were home the most, and loved on him like crazy. Tae is like a tiny mother already. She was so helpful the whole time we were there!
Luca learned how to open their doors on the first night we were there--I am so glad we have normal knobs and not the longer ones, I am not ready for a child that can get out or in to any room. We were in the office that first night, he had a pack n play and I was on an air mattress, but he wouldn't sleep unless he was with me. It was probably the longest night I have had in a long long time. I was paranoid the entire night that he would wake people up, so I kept him with me.
Which also confirmed without a doubt that there is no way on earth Luca is ready for a toddler bed--which I had been trying to decide about, because he seemed like he could do well. NOPE. The kid thought the air mattress was just a giant trampoline almost all night long. He jumped on and off, dove head first off, and bounced around for hours. Not cool.
His favorite thing in the world is showers right now, and Jen has a double shower in her bathroom. I let him get in with me, because he had his own shower head, and he stayed in there forever after I got out. He was in heaven.
And then, his ears. He's putting things in there all the time. Or was, he hasn't really since we have been back, thankfully.
Pom poms were the culprit this time.
After the windy dust storm we got snow! Of course. Utah has spring snow instead of winter.
Oh man. Sleeping in a new place is rough for an 18 month old. I tried everything my brain could think of, and nothing worked after that first night, so I ended up putting Arthur's Perfect Christmas on the ipad, guided accessed it (so he couldn't leave the movie and play games), and left him at that. After the first night I figured out that it still has to be light outside for long enough so he will fall asleep before it is dark, otherwise the bright screen kept him up.
Traveling/staying somewhere other than home is HARD with a toddler. You gotta do what you gotta do. No matter what it says about your mothering. I was so scared we would have an awful habit to break when we got home, but he didn't have any issues!! Hallelujah for normal bedtimes now.
Other than sleeping issues, Luca did so well for being away. He got so much love.
